The Maryland Buergerverein
The Deutschamerikanischer Buergerverein von Maryland, Inc. (German-American Citizens Association of Maryland), more commonly known as the Maryland Buergerverein, was founded on May 9, 1900. It was officially incorporated on April 8, 1904.
The Buergerverein is a nonprofit, charitable corporation under the provisions of §501(3)(c) of the Internal Revenue Code. Its activities encompass cultural, educational, social and charitable fields. It is best known as the sponsor of the Maryland German Festival, held regularly since 1900. It also promotes the study of the German language in Maryland schools.

The Maryland German Festival has been sponsored by the Maryland Buergerverein since 1900. Our association strives for the closer union of people interested in the German heritage of Maryland. The Buergerverein itself is an umbrella association for organizations, clubs, lodges, societies, corporations, and businesses within Maryland’s German community. We hope you will not only enjoy the annual Maryland German Festival, but will also explore the many activities offered by our affiliated organizations.
